I would start by identifying each of the alarm sensors and tracing the wires back to the alarm unit. These can then be removed. Once you have found the alarm unit you should be able to trace the wires back to the ignition/battery. If your alarm also has an immobiliser you may need to repair/replace wiring to the starter motor or fuel pump.
Alternatively, just remove the bits which you are offending your eyes. Put the covers back on the ignition and forget about it.

Door lock
How did you get on with the door lock repair? I have just broken my drivers door one again when getting home from work.

too many tiny wires...
IDentified 'thingy' to remove out in the bonnet and snapped all the plastic strips. Also detached thin, blue wire. Is that an earth?
This loome goes in behind dash board so I can easily trace it. Under dasboard it divides into like 10 12 small wires, a few going up under the steering wheel but moust of them ending over with the ignition key wires. What to do and what NOT to do?

Not sure what the thin blue wire was for. Can you not identify it from the circuit diagrams in Haynes or if you can start the car is there something which doesn't work now?

Now what?
As suggested I look for a big, black box that should tell what car alarm it is so I might find a diagram or just ask someone about the wiring who would know. It's not at the passenger side at all as only wire going there is to the sensor. Any other (small) black 'box' I can see on drivers side is marked Audi.
ONLY unknown thing is this black, small bundle of wires apparently leading directly out to the side of the car, but can't really trace it? All other small wires I can see where they got and nothing indicates what car alarm it might be. (Tim mumbled: Oh no, it might be in the door panel...) Anyone got any good ideas?

It looks like a cobra or scorpion loom, take it the sounder box is missing then ?

Funnily enough I have just finished removing what appears to be 2 alarm systems from one of my CQ's about a month ago. In total I had to fix 10 wires which had been spliced into for the alarm and immobilisor under the glovebox as this is where the main feeds and the fusebox was. I removed quote a lot of wiring.....
What made the job a lot easier is all of the bottom panels and the centre console was out of the car! A few things you will need. Wire cutters Stanley knife Soldering iron Solder Shrink wrap tubing hair dryer (for shrinking the shirnk wrap tubing) - not for making sure you look good while doing the job! Electrical tape As you will probably have to repair some of wiring... Obvious but make sure you disconnect the battery when you do this. What I did was trace the wiring from under the bonnet to a black box behind the passenger glovebox, it then ran a bunch of black wire which were spliced into the main wiring loom. I traced all the wires form the box and cut them where they went in to the main loom and made a note as I did so, to remember which wires then needed repairing. I might have been lucky as all of the modifications to the wiring loom were localised..... My alarms are now removed and the car starts
