Default Clutch replacement cost - URQ

Hi all

I'm assuming the worst but actually hoping I'm fretting and being a bit of a drama queen.

So yesterday I did a clutch dump and long story short, for the first time ever I've managed to burn my clutch slightly. I pulled over just a few hundred metres from the event and left the car to stand for 40-50 mins. The clutch doesn't slip but a day later it's still smelling quite awful (moreso in 2nd).

Questions are:

Is it more like that I've killed the clutch or just reduced it's life!?

Is there a way I can check how much of a booboo I've done?

How much of a job is it to replace the clutch (in mechanic hours approx - not thinking of doing it myself!)

Finally, I've found a clutch that apparently fits the 200 2.2 turbo & WR / MB turbo - does that sound right? Any other bits I might need other than a clutch kit, flywheel!?

Many thanks

Very sombre Dave

Do this all the time in mine and smell dies down after a while It probably reduces the life a bit but mines coming out for an upgraded one anyway shortly as it slips far too easily on full bore starts

Thank you.

You've offered me some hope that I don't have to shell out immediately for a new clutch after buying a full stainless exhaust in the last week!

I find it's best to get the car rolling, get clutch fully engaged then floor it, far less likely to slip

I got a good deal from a dealership a few years ago, 2006ish, drop the box, replace the entire clutch assembly-

£447 all in. Parts, labour.
It started off as just a clutch replacement, but when it was all in bits, it turned out to be much worse.

I wrote about it on quattroforum.

I don't often go to dealerships, but Stirling Audi wasn't too bad in them days.

That is mighty cheap!

I did actually look on the audi website and they quote clutch replacements "from £899!!"

By the way. My clutch was in a really bad way.
Pressure plate was almost useless.

Cheapest I've seen is £186 for the clutch kit then theres the labour element which is going to be I don't know how many hours, lots I'm assuming!

Which is why I'm hoping it doesn't need doing!

I went in, talked to the chaps on the desk, told them that standard rates on an old car are no good. Asked them what they can do.

Worst case scenario, you can get a free cup of coffee and go elsewhere. Worth asking. They weren't advertising low cost labour/fixed price stuff. But it was in their literature- fixed rates.

Might be very different now, though.

There's nothing overly complex with a Quattro.
-Getting drive shafts loose?
-Making SURE that the diff lock hoses are disconnected before the weight of the box hangs on the plastic for 0.2mSeconds before snapping off

I used the dealership as I was (still am) nursing a couple slipped disks, and would have been struggling with the facilities that I had.
