The tabs usually break and the flaps sit open when they should be closed. carbon canister sits in front of the cooling system expansion tank. There are two valves which operate it - it's supposed to absorb excess fumes and return them back to the tank - that's what the middle fuel line is for.

See Post #6.
I did quite bit of smurfing on't t'internet last night and I found the list of fault codes, with symptoms and fixes to print off for my chap when he's back from Germany. One of said codes is 2413 which if shown, indicates rich running coupled with low fuel pressure. Now the fuel pump was making some strange noises after a run as though a bearing was starting to seize; so, I wonder if that might be the cause. It's still the original so it will be changed anyway and while it's there, a new lambda probe won't go amiss as so far as I can see from the service records, that's still the original! you sure about that fault code ? 2413 is not a valid code for a 20v
should it be 2143 knock sensor or 2341 lambda probe ? http://20v.org/fault.htm At least with a code you have something to work with

I've taped up the aperture where the missing rubber flap was and I'm taking it out in an hour or so on a drive up to Orpington station on the way to see Mark Knopfler in London tonight. More news tomorrow if the smell inside has diminished. |

Mike, you're a genius!
No trace of the smell inside the cabin with windows open even after just starting it up. Fast run up Pole Hill on M25 to Orpington and NO SMELL. Perhaps that's the cause of the smell in Davids's car as well, especially if it's intermittent. I'll still put a new pump on though, I don't like the noises it makes occasionally and knowing my luck it'll fail in a very inconvenient place. P.S. Mark Knopfler gig was terrific by the way - best selection of songs and we were right on top of the stage beside Messrs McGoldrick & McCosker. Last edited by SwallownAmazon; 23-05-19 at 09:30 AM. |
