Default Gearbox rebuild or purchase secondhand gearbox?

Just a bit of advice gents if you don't mind, my B2 1987 Audi coupe Gt gear box (HD) may be on its last legs, getting a crunch going into first gear most times, in the last couple of years it has had a hard life with the 2.3 7A 20v engine pushing the power through it and hill climbing has not helped its life expectancy, anyway any thoughts on gearbox builders in central Scotland or dose any one want to part with a B2 gearbox with HD letter code.

Hi Colin, I can't help with the name of a gearbox builder near you, but quite a few years ago I had the S2 gearbox rebuilt, which wasn't cheap, but it's been a strong, reliable 'box since. I would personally get the existing 'box over to a builder for assessment and a rebuild.
Hope this sort of helps a little....
Good luck.

Colin you could try ASK Transmissions in Redding Ind EST, Falkirk *01324 629222‬. I was passed his number from a garage that deals with him. Very knowledgeable when I had a question about the gearbox on my daughters Mini 👍🏼

Colin,
Mackie Transmissions in Glasgow get some very good reviews on other forums , particularly for work on the ZF HP 5 speed auto fitted to the D2 A8/S8 range. i think they also do manual boxes. May be worth a call.
