Nice museum piece but (apologies in advance) can someone explain to me (an unenlightened troglodyte) what is the fascination with old fords??? Is it the rally pedigree? Nostalgia? What is it about them? They are poorly built mass production cars, which were never reliable and rusted if you looked at them. Our first car as a family (when I was about three) was identical to this but yellow, none of us miss it. What are we missing?

Like you, millions grew up around them......and now many are in a position to pay plenty to own their own bit of nostalgia. Prices are being pushed up accordingly.
Because of their popularity they've definitely got a head start regarding being sought after.

Just my thoughts.

I think nostalgia pretty much sums it up. I'm not the biggest Ford fan either (sorry kenquattro ) but there is something about that escort shape, not sure of the estate though.

That's not to say they are "good" cars particularly, just like that Astra GTE that went for around £10k recently..

Aye, so the sheer popularity of them at the time gives them a massive audience to sell to essentially? I will admit the last rally we took the kids too, every car from brand new evos to £500 micras, the old escorts were by far the most entertaining, the sound, the drifting around etc. Look great fun, but three times the price of an old beemer that can do pretty much the same thing.. with a quarter of the build quality.

Sorry, as you were! I will try to grow them on me!
