Reading the description or work done reminds just why I don't want one of these complicated beasts....I struggle enough with a simple early '80's car let alone the complexities of todays cars.... You have to be a VAG technician, or have deep pockets to risk ownership of such cars...well thats my opinion FWIW.

Looking at the list quickly it looks like its had a lot of work done to it but if you look closer its basically just been serviced. Not saying its a good or bad car. I have sunk £650 into my S6 so far and thats just in parts, if you added in my labour it wouldn't be worth doing (over 100 hours so far)

These cars are pretty simple to work on, there isn't that much to them, i am a mechanic so i suppose i would say that.

The list on the face of it looks impressive but as you say that was my conclusion too. Service the car lads and add £2k some mug might pay it. And don't forget to take a spare oil drum with you. Polish a turd springs to mind.

Echo Frank, 70's/80's rust was the killer, 90's and beyond Tech problems will kill cars.

I reckon there will be less motors from 1999 on as time goes on.

Thort the ABS on my 99 Veccy had gone, new cost £999 motor worth £500 at best.

Kept it still tho'but

Don't go testing that theory, you're right. £2.4k in parts and about a billion hours in labour in the last eighteen months into an allroad, and that's just the brakes, lambdas and suspension sorted. Haven't started on the drive train yet! 80 B3 1.8 carb. on the shopping list.. Will be cheaper than doing the exhaust.
