Default I Wanna buy a camera. Whatcha reckon?

Looking to buy a camera. Actually, my brother has asked me to do it, for a surprise.

Budget circa £150. Used. Thinking Canon/Nikon, DSLR things appear on fleabay in the region.

If you go Nikon, try and get a Nikon lens too.

Plenty cameras out there

Canon 550d good bit of kit. I think mine new was around the £600 mark and I've seen them for a couple of hundred second hand.

As stand alone cameras we have always had Nikon which have been brilliant... But, the camera I use most now is the one on my Sony phone. It’s not even a new phone, it’s probably 6-years old now and yet still out performs the “new” work phone’s camera buy a country mile.

Might be worth checking out some Sony reviews.

It’s a present for my sis in law. She’s getting into photography, and needs something a little more advanced.

Cheers, all.

We got our girls started ‘beyond the basic phone stuff’ with bridge cameras. It gives the opportunity to understand shutter, f-stop, bracketing and ISO without getting into lens compatibility cost.

Consider FUJI too. Not an often mentioned brand.

A Canon 400D with a standard 18-55mm lens and a 75-300mm should cover most needs of a newbie.

I will try and keep this short, yes I have been using digital camera since the mid 90,s, my first was second hand from a friend for £500 a Kodak DC-40 and I still have It, Photo taken below late 1997 with the Kodak DC-40, the file size is 163Kb thats 0.163Mb.

My current camera is a Nikon D3300 with various lenses, I have recently retaken the photo above with the Nikon D3300 and it is below, the file size is over 8Mb, the photo looks stretched because it was taken with a 10mm to 20mm wide angle lens, unfortunately that was the only lens that I had with me on that day.

Now the photos above show you how far we have come in the last 20+ years with digital photography and it is only going to get better.

Couple bits of advice now, don't think that the purchase of a expensive camera will make the photographs you take better, only the setting that you use to set up the camera will do that and it takes many years to hone you photography skill looking at the light you have on the subject, what IS0 to set, shutter speed, aperture setting, Look I could go on for ever, I still have bad days and just bin most of what I take.

Moving on, photo below looks nice and sharp but is the car moving or not???

Next looks more like an action shot, only changed 2 settings, blurred back ground, foreground and wheels but a sharp subject.

You will bin more photos than you keep.
Remember lenses are not interchangeable between most camera main brands.

If I go out for a run now I take a Canon SX720HS not very wide angle but has a super zoom lens and fits in you jeans front pocket.

If any of you gents are interested bottom two photos taken at Doune Hill Climb, both subject cars owned and driven by an Audi owner that has moved on Eddy Young, some of you may remember him from his posts.
