C3 Bonnet Adjustment question
Folks,
Twenty seven years ago my C3 had a new offside front wing fitted and the front edge of the bonnet is slightly proud of the wing (barely noticeable). Consequently, the front offside corner of the bonnet had a tendency to pop up now and again. After some fettling of what looks like a hexagonal shaped adjuster at the base of the offside bonnet spring, this stopped. However, the more I turn this to bring the bonnet down, the greater the bonnet's desire to start popping open again. Am I doing something wrong? Any tips appreciated. I wonder has the receiver in the front panel weakened? Also it might be worth considering that the bonnet hinge on that side might need a little adjustment? Open the bolts that attach the hinge to the bulkhead just slightly (enough to get movement but not enough that it's moving freely) and then close the bonnet and see if that helps. If it does then just tighten them up again. I had a similar issue in a 100 I had after a front end repair.

It's taken a year but I've finally had a look at everything and the problem is fixed.
I could kick myself though as I ended up where I began. Nothing I did seemed to make a difference.. Then, just as I was about to despair, I happened to notice the 2 locking pins (I think that's the correct term) were slightly different in length, so I began to fettle the pins once again and after the best part of an hour and often wondering whether I'd made the problem worse, it all finally looked right. The bonnet does not pop up as I drive along either... |
