I'm not into the model E numbers on BMW's but have always been a big fan of the 2002's and the original 3 series. Great looking cars.

Compound valve hemispherical chamber, a good design similar to the HE XJS jags, at least you had one, both mine were 2.0 litre Injection Ghias.

Great shape these and of course the E30. It wasn't until the B4 80 that i thought Audi had finally cracked it to make a better looking luxury mid segment car.The rest is history as they say.
When I some time ago had a chance to introduce myself to E36 interior [I sometimes earn some pocket money with my soldering iron, although soldering audi wires usually], I started to wonder how anyone could compare it with audi - that car wasn't B4 competitor, more felt like cross between mk2 and mk3 golfs, with RWD I was shocked to see low tech/low quality interior trim solutions in such a car - I know that 5-series is way better made.

Speaking of E21 - I have a mate who owns one he restored by himself. It used to be 318i, he bought it at the beginning of this decade and spent year and half welding it, because it was like swiss cheese - I haven't seen so rusty car so far, usually way less rusty cars goes to crusher - now, for past two or three years he sometimes drives it on dry summer days A couple of years ago he also swapped in 1.8 iS engine from E30 in it.
