Well good evening once again fellow rockers!...
and welcome to what promises to be another mammoth rocktastic Friday night with ‘rock chick’ DJ leggy

Further to my AC/DC introduction a few weeks ago, and before this evening gets underway, well here are just a selection of facts about the band:
The two Australian brothers, Malcolm and Angus Young, got the idea for the name of the band from their sister, Margaret, who had seen the initials ‘AC/DC’ on a sewing machine; an abbreviation meaning ‘alternating current/direct current’ electricity.
The title of bands signature tune, ‘Highway to Hell’, written by Angus in 1979, reflected the bands arduous touring schedule and life on the road; six months after its release, Bon Scott (lead singer), was found dead in a friends car following a night of heavy alcohol consumption.
With 175 songs to their name (up until 2105), many of which have been used as movie soundtracks (eg. Thunderstruck, Dukes of Hazard, Battleship, Iron Man, and School of Rock), the band have sold more than 200 million records worldwide inc. 71.5million albums in the US; influencing many other bands along the way.
Their 14th album ‘Black Ice’ (there 15th in Australia), released in 2008, followed an 8yr silence on the album front, but like many previous album releases, it broke various records worldwide as well as receiving gold, platinum and multi-platinum status across a total of 36 countries; thus proving to worried fans that they were far from finished!
Malcolm (rhythm guitarist) left the band in 2014 due to ill health (dementia), reports suggest that he’s now receiving round the clock care at a Sydney health care facility. In hiring his nephew Stevie Young to take on his role for the ‘Rock or Bust’ world tour (their 23rd; inspired by Malcolm), he convinced the band to continue without him; younger brother Angus (lead guitarist), now 61yrs of age, is the only original member playing.
Throughout their many years and line-up changes, AC/DC have received numerous nominations for awards (winning 12 of them inc. a Grammy!), they have (deservedly imo) won several titles deeming them to be one of the ‘best and/or greatest rock bands in the world’, and in 2003 they were inducted in to ‘The Hall of Fame’ by Aerosmith’s lead vocalist and front man, Steve Tyler.

With all that said, it’s time now to crank up the volume chaps, and to get yourselves ready for the final part of my AC/DC special, ‘For those about to rock, we salute you’ ->

Default AC/DC lead vocalists

So touching on AC/DC’s lead vocalists now, these being: Dave Evans (1973-1974), Bon Scott (1974-1980), Brian Johnson (1980-2016), and Axl Rose (April 2016).

Undeniably, Scott’s unique sound and style brought the band in to the lime-light with albums such as ‘Highway to Hell’, but it can also be argued that whilst Johno walked in to the saddest and most difficult of situations in rock history following Scott’s death, he also did an amazing job in so far as keeping the band in the lime-light throughout his 36yrs with albums such as ‘Back in Black’; he is also the most recognised of the two (has been on Top Gear a few times, and owns a great car collection too! ) - bring on the ‘who is better’ debate!

That said, and following Johno’s forced departure in April of this year (doctors advice; risk of total hearing loss! ), which occurred part way through their current ‘Rock or Bust’ world tour, the band had to make a quick decision as to what to do; cancel the tour and disappoint 1000’s of fans or sign up a new front man - they signed up Axl Rose!

Now don’t get me wrong, I liked Axl when he was with Guns n’ Roses, but whether he’s trying to rep-licate former singers or not, personally I just don’t think his higher range pitch is suited to being able to pull off the AC/DC iconic songs, in fact, I’d go as far as to say that he isn’t singing many of them at all but rather ‘screeching’ them! - furthermore, and whilst it’s not known if Axl’s contract will be on-going or not, I just hope for the bands sake that it’s not, imho, and in the same way that Johno wouldn’t fit in with Guns N’ Roses, Axl just doesn’t fit in with AC/DC!

The good news being that Johno issued a statement on his treatment (ADEL hearing technology with an in-ear specialist) in the early part of last month, stating that “it works…I was really moved and amazed to be able to hear music again like I haven't heard for several years now. I can’t wait for it to be miniaturised so that I can use it in every situations…performing live music on stage” - safe to say I think that Johno may well make a return at some point in the future!

Anyhow, that’s my take on it all, inc my Axl verdict, so please sit back and enjoy one last video salute to their 43yrs on the road as I now conclude my AC/DC special ->

Oh and to quote something that I heard whilst preparing my AC/DC set lists ->

”long live “High Voltage’ Rock n’ Roll!”
