1992 Audi 80 Clutch Noise
1992 Audi 80 8C B4 2.0. 70,000 miles (yes, seventy thousand!).
There's often been a clunk when I engage first or reverse gear when the engine's hot, but nothing any worse than my previous two Audis. Over the past year or so there's also been an occasional underfloor grating rattle at idle like a loose heat shield, again only when it's hot. I've just noticed that with the engine running and the transmission in neutral, there's a light clunk at the end of the clutch pedal 'up' travel but no noise with the pedal depressed. No gear change problems or graunching noises otherwise. I'm planning on selling her now that I'm a pensioner and don't need any trips other than what my bus pass will give me but I don't want to pass any problems onto a new owner. Any ideas, Audi-persons? Thanks. |

It was the clutch release bearing in case anyone else has the same problem.
The complete clutch was replaced at the same time, seeing as the gearbox was out. Total cost of materials and labour was just over £400, which I thought was quite reasonable. |
