If you have enough money and/or mechanical ability, most things are possible. However, without major modifications and/or machining, the short answer is 'no, you can't fit 8x15 wheels from an ur-quattro'. Largely because they'll foul the bodywork due to their width and offset. To get an idea of how much further the outer edge of the tyre will 'stick out' compared with standard the wheels you need to consider the following;

increase in offset/et = 51mm (standard wheel) - 24mm (ur-quattro wheel) = 27mm

increase in tyre width = 215mm (sensible minimum on an 8") - 185mm (standard tyre) = 30mm = 15mm either side

thickness of adaptor = 15mm minium (I suspect it would have to be more like 30mm to work due to the PCDs involved and the diameter and depth of the registers on the Coupe's hubs)

So, the tyre will stick out a further 27+15+15 = 57mm at an absolute minimum, probably nearer 72mm.

That may not sound like a huge amount but 27mm or so would be pushing it. With 195 tyres and wheels with an offset of 38mm, the steering on my Coupe is pretty heavy, particularly at parking speeds. I imagine it would be almost impossible with a 215 tyre and an effective offet of 9mm or less (24mm plus the adaptor).

Your wheel bearings wouldn't last long with that sort of offset either. And I think you'd notice the increase in unsprung weight through the steering and the ride (I suspect the weight of an 8x15 alloy plus 215 tyre and adaptor would be significantly greater than that of the standard steel wheel and tyre).

Suitable alloy wheels for early Coupes are hard to find, but they do crop-up occassionally. Please contact me if you want to discuss your options.

Does anyone know the centre bore for early 4x140PCD wheels?

Hello. According to my vernier, the centre bore of a 4x140mm wheel is 96.36mm (or thereabouts). Seems a little odd as you'd expect it to be a round number, but I've measured both wheel and hub and that's what it reads.

Why do you ask?

Thanks for that.

I'm trying to work out what wheels I can get to fit my 100 - The car wasn't with me when I asked the question so I couldn't measure it myself!
