Default B3 coupe side lower rubber trim strips

Hi all.
The black rubber trims that go on the bottom of the front wings, doors and rear quarter panels on my coupe are tatty. Especially the rear quarter panel ones. I have searched the net and they are hard to come by or stupidly expensive.
My question is; has anyone done away with these trims and somehow filled or plated over the area to a good standard. I am just wondering what the options are.
I have to do some rust repairs on the lower rear quarter panels both sides where the trims mount but don't know what to do for the best.
Cheers Steve.

Hi all.
Anyone got any thoughts on this.
Are 80 cabriolet trims the same? Maybe easier to find.
Cheers Steve.

You can get them easily enough on eBay Germany, about £80 per side last time I looked
