Heater blower issue
Hi all.
Apologies if this has been covered in the past, couldn't see anything exactly relating to my problem. The 1st speed on my heater blower doesn't work. (1985 quattro). Speeds 2 & 3 work fine. According to my wiring diagram, the first speed feed from switch to fan ballast resistor is a white wire and I have 12v at the resistor end with fan switched to 1 and ignition on. Could anyone please confirm my suspicions of a faulty ballast? If so, any ideas for sourcing a replacement? The only ones found so far are on a certain auction site secondhand with no guarantee they are fully functional. Part code is 171 905 051B Many thanks in advance.

Hi and thanks for the reply.
Switch is fine, tested for output on all 3 speeds ok so I know this is good.

Hi,
Did this get sorted in the end? I have similar problem with my 87 C3. 1st speed is very slow. Hardly noticeable. Is the Resistor easy to get at and is it yellow? |

Hi Ringmaster,
Yes got this sorted thanks by replacing the ballast. On the B2's, it is under the scuttle water tray, remove the mesh leaf guard and you will see it attached to the fan motor. Mine was white, replacement which I had to have secondhand and shipped from the States was simple enough if you are happy to splice the wiring. Example item in link below http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Blower-HVA...8AAOSw791Zrxci C3 looks to be a different part on ETKA, screwed to the side of the fan motor. Possibly part no. 443959127C or ending in B if the car has aircon. Hope this helps.

Fan position 1 is feeble on my car too. Ventilation on these cars is poor. |

Thank you Ovalking.
That saves me a bit of time locating it. My fan speed at 1 is slower than I can ever remember. |
