Sunroof open, should it/can it open any further?

Sunroof closed, as good as I can get without breaking something! Surely should be better fit? Front of car is to the right in both pictures...obviously?

Looks like the wrong seal to me, should be a tight fit to the panel.

Whilst the picture does very much look like its not a great fit, another thing to consider is that you have had a respray. The paint on all surfaces will be thicker than before and so the gap the seal sits in is smaller than before. Does the old seal still fit?

Old seal has gone along with a few other parts I asked the re-spray shop to keep which would have a second hand value.
The idea about re-spray making the panel thicker is maybe a thought altho' there was no significant paint to the roofs' edge. The seal does seem a tad too big all round, altho' the profile is from memory the same as the one that came off the car. I guess these seals are made up now in some "foreign place" to try to match the original German design and a few millimetres will make all the difference......well that's what I keep telling the wife anyway!

Maybe I just need a bigger hammer!

I'll bet that's not a genuine seal

Same here. Slightly up at back since new seal fitted 7 years ago. Got slightly better over the years so should be spot on in another 10.... Lol

Ok Guys, many thanks for all your guidance and experiences. As to whether it is or isn't genuine, I can certainly ask the seller , but expect the reply to be that the seals are sourced from the best possible supplier, as I'm certain they are NLA from VAG.

Just hope the windscreen rubber he supplied is a better fit when it comes to fitting my new bronze tinted windscreen on order from Pilkingtons!!!

I got a genuine seal from Audi dealer 12 months ago, top edge is ribbed plastic material with a furry material on the underside, my roof sits high at the left rear corner but think that down to adjustment. The seal in your pic looks wrong.

Many thanks for that last reply. I too bought a seal from my local Audi dealer...for around £55 which was more than HALF the price of the second one that you see in my pictures. Unfortunately, the "paint shop" butchered the first Audi one and claimed it didn't fit, having damaged it in the process of trying to fit it. It certainly looked a better fit than the one on the car at the moment, but as it was damaged and they assured me it must be the wrong part, I then forked out another £120 for the item that now adorns my sunroof. The latter I fitted but as everyone has said so far, it DOES seem to be too big.
Quandry? do I buy another Audi one and fit it myself, or make do with what I've got....?

Answers on a postcard. :-(

Incidentally, how can you adjust a sunroof?
