NG code engine replace rings wout rebore?
All, The piston bores in my NG engine (120K miles) look nice. Do I have to have rebored or could I used new standard size piston rings in the engine? I am not sure about the UK, but reboring is quite expensive here.

If there's no obvious wear and the bores haven't gone oval then there's no need to rebore it, a new set of rings gapped properly will be fine.
No step at the top of the bore I assume? |

You need to measure them. Depending on the life the car has had, they are probably slightly oval. If you can't feel a step at the top the the bores with your finger nail, and you're not planning to go nuts with the engine (I'm guessing not on an NG ) they are likely fine to go again.
The main cost associated with a reborn is the new Pistons you need to go with it! |

Dont forget if the piston rings are worn the grooves they sit in may also have worn too, which is why unless its a low miles engine itd be a false economy to re-ring it.
