The metal breather pipe (No. 2) is blanked off.

The rubber connection from the crankcase (No. 4) is open.

Both number references from the top diagram I posted.

The fuel filter's been changed yes?

Have you lifted up the fuel metering head(just split the airbox) to check that the flap moves freely and doesn't stick at any point?

In the coupe, with NG engine, does the idle control valve also provide the extra air for cold start, that would previously have been the auxiliary air valve in previous less sophisticated setups?

Does the idle control valve function correctly?

Resurrecting this thread as although the initial starting issue disappeared (not 100% sure it wasn't related to poor fuel and the fuel filter) I'm still having issues, just bigger ones.

I ran the coupe very little the last year, 1050 miles, and prior to its MOT last summer it was starting fine but had a bit of a misfire under load still. Took it out prior to its MOT, put in 99ron fuel and gave it a real blast - all fixed

Anyway, I'm using (was) the car a lot more now and its developed the following issues:

Can take minutes to start (during which time it turns over strong but will not catch). During this time the car will very occasionally backfire and turns over roughly until eventually starting.
Will idle for 25 min or so without issue but as soon as the accelerator is pressed it will cut out.
When driving under full throttle the car will stutter and sound really rough (backing off the throttle will see it run smooth again)
But most worryingly the car will just cut out while driving. It will begin to splutter, feel under powered, then die. Stopping and turning it over again will see it restart straight away (most of the time). The problem can happen every 2-3 minutes.

Work carried out:
Fuel filter changed
Air box swapped out to a spare without all the holes
New plugs
Crank breather pipe correctly fitted (has been for a while)
Car will stutter if the oil filler cap is removed.
Rubber hoses checked for leaks (none found but not ruled out)
I can hear the fuel pump prime prior to attempting to start the car.

Any pointers appreciated. Anyone experienced issued with an under powered fuel pump etc?

It would help if you could read the fault codes as it sounds like a knock sensor/timing issue.

Unfortunately I don't have the hardware to read codes. Also heard the 10v wipes the memory each time the ignition is switched off and a blink test is almost impossible to read?

I read the codes with my MB ur, but if you can't stand the idea of reading yours, time to start from scratch.
fuel / air
spark
timing
compression

then move on to a complete strip down of the wiring loom, followed by re-installing using the wiring diagram available online.

I'd try the blink codes first though.

Helpful Its not that i can't stand the idea, I just don't have the kit or experience.
