When I was trying to sort out my 80 Sport ( 1984 vintage ) about 2 years ago now, I had all these sort of problems with my fuel tank. Main factor is that the Sport has a lower compartment inside the tank where the pick up pipe ( outflow) and the return pipes are located. Despite spending hours swilling fuel in and out of the tank you just cannot access the ends of the pipes. I ended up selling the whole project onto someone else and not sure where he has got to with the restoration.
However, I think that the ONLY realistic solution is to get a professional company to open up the tank, clean it thoroughly , including any filters etc, and then have it coated and resealed. I think any effort to seal an Audi tank will probably seal up the filter too. I sympathise with all you guys trying to do it as I remember only too well days of swilling fuel around that damned tank. Not my finest hour(s) for sure. |

The next 5 hrs draining £50 worth of fuel don't show anything different..

Don't leave vinegar soaking in the tank, it takes off the coating on the inside of the tank. Things are worse now!

In the end, I had to ditch the b2 90 tank and fitted a modified b3 90 quattro tank. Internally, it was in better condition and had no fuel flow restriction through the internal gauze filter.
