Default Modern Audis (Hmmm) Pick of the crop

Well, its that exciting time again when I consider what to replace my modern daily with.

I have a 6 year old Golf V6 4Motion which I will be replacing in about 6 months time. Its a quick, safe, comfy, practical car, which is stealthy enough to blend into the car park but quick enough to surprise passengers and other traffic.

Looking to spend £15 - £20 max, not too worried about mileage as long as its not astronomical and I'd like something between 3 and 5 years old.

One of my options is an S4 Avant (V8 model)

Does anyone have any experience of these in terms of living with, reliability etc. Obviously they cost a lot to run but thats less of an issue as I don't do too many miles at the mo and my Golf couldn't be described as cheap and frugal!

All opinons welcome.

Modern cars leave me old but chuck yer money at an RS2 and spend the change on petrol!

The petrol consumption is dreadful, but smiles per mile, you can't go wrong!!

Other than that, Skoda Octavia VRS??
Volkswagen Passat??
Audi A4 3.0Tdi?

I think you're probably in the right area with an S4 Avant... You'll love the B6 A4 chassis and the V8 engine is strong and soulful...

If you can, give one a long test drive...

So, what did ya pick in the end? Did the lure of a modern reliable A4 get the better of you???

Gotta say it though, I think the A3 Sportback is a tidy looking motor and a new one would fit into your budget nicely and folding them back seats down still gives you enough space to have a modern parts hauler!!

Hmm well this weekend a Dutch traveller backed his camper van and metal cycle rack along the side of my Golf in Glastonbury so I am reassesing my priorities. The car has been knocked and scratched at Bath station where I park every day. To be honest, blowing that sort of money on something that other pricks can damage is not really worth it - I look after my cars but you cannot trust who you park next to every day!

Not the end of the world obviously but still annoying.

Plan is: Run this into the ground, spend some more cash on my 80s, hire a nice car when the wife wants to show off at a wedding - result

what a pita. Did he have the decency to stop and pass on his details?

Know what you're saying about parking it up at a station daily. There's nothing worse than seeing dinks in a new car from some numpty opening the door to hard. My missus uses an old Audi 80 avant to go to and from work for this very reason.
