I'd imagine the great scrap heap in the sky if it's been since 2002 Tim

DVLA used to give you owner details for a fee depending on what you want it for.
Cant remember the form number though. |

Always had to be a legitimate reason-like An insurance company tracing a hit and run, or a trespass parker.
"I want to know who's got my old car" would not be judged legitimate I'm afraid.

However I suspect (but hope not) not far from the truth. Like all cars the Ur including the 20v dropped in value but increased in repair cost. So, in 2002 it would have been a fully deprecated vehicle requiring an increasing repair cost and likely an owner who didn’t have the means to preserve it. In later years I’ve grown to realise that the ‘average’ Quattro “enthusiast” in the 1990’s/early 2000’s was actually probably the biggest single demise of Ur Quattro in the UK because they bought cheap with limited funds and maximum optimism, all of which ran out by 2010.

I suspect this is not an Ur he's referring to.
A coupe quattro 20v with a 7A lump. I had one from 1996-1999. I got a shade under £5k in 1999 when I traded for an S2. 3 years after that it might have been worth £2000 so if it was in a bump of any kind, that would be enough to write it off.

Since GDPR, though, just wanting details of previous keepers of your own vehicle is not a good enough reason to get them. I believe the issue is that the previous keepers hadn't expressly given permission for their information to be shared with you, so the DVLA err on the side of caution. Wouldn't be the first moss-encrusted "modern classic" to have been dragged out of a shed, but likelihood is that it's unfortunately gone. Should have been declared scrapped, of course. |
