Default *BROKEN DOWN AUDI 80 2.6E Saloon

Hi guys.

Decided to give the car a run up to Dundee. Was running well from Glenrothes, but pulled in at the Shell garage just South of Tay Bridge, put fuel in, and now won't start.

This seems like the same issue that the garage had. They thought it was the camshaft sensor, but with that now having been changed through the week, it can't be that that's preventing the car from starting.

So now stuck here. Any ideas as to something I can do to get the car started?

For anybody not following my other threads, car has just had the following parts fitted in an attempt to cure a misfire:

Camshaft position sensor
Ignition amplifier.
Spark plugs.
Plug leads.
Coil pack.
Fuel filter.
Cam belt.
Thermostat.
Water pump.

Hopefully someone has an idea before I call the tow truck.

Is it no fuel or no spark? (fuel pump running?)

If you can get a spark plug out see if it’s wet with fuel or sparks onto the head when cranked. Don’t get a shock or blow yourself up though.

Hi.

Thanks for chiming in.

Unfortunately, got absolutely no tools with us.

Fuel pump can definitely be heard priming though.

Thinking vapour lock?

The only thing I can suggest is leaving it for half an hour, cranking it will just kill the battery. Hopefully when it cools down a bit, it’ll fire up again.

Incidentally, can you disconnect the battery? Worth a go for the same half hour. It’ll reset any ECU type issues. (Do B3’s have ECUs? Probably not, but worth a try)..

Last time this happened with the garage, it was closing time on a Saturday. They had to leave it until Monday morning, and then it started fine. So not convinced leaving it 30 mins will do the job, but worth a try.

Can't get the battery off, no tools.
Not sure if it makes a difference, but the car is a B4, not B3. I should have made that clear. It's an early 1993 model with the ABC engine.

Apart from the 'other fuel system fault' and 'other ignition system fault'...it doesn't unfortunately.
Everything else mentioned has been replaced in the last 10 days. Mostly Bosch, a couple of Beru, and Magneti-Marelli leads. Basically a new ignition system. This is why I'm thinking it's a fuelling issue.

Yeah, had everything out and wiggled this and that.

Big yellow lorry is on its way. Just need to sit twiddling our thumbs now until it turns up.
This was meant to be the Audi's first appearance at our car club after buying it a month or so ago.. We were on our way to a 30th anniversary lunch, so not only has the car let us down, but more importantly, the wife and I are missing out on the 4 course lunch that we've already paid £50 for.

This car isn't making it easy for me to like it!

Big yellow truck? Are you in the AA? They are quite good at fault finding, have a version of VAGCOM and might actually identify what's been causing all your wowes. Really depends how good the guy/lady is but good luck.
