Default diy front coilovers

hi all, i,m having a real nightmare with front coilovers on my 86 b2 saloon, i have read loads of threads on here and built some using the welded on seats but i want it really low and its just bottoming out on the strut top. another thread showed the insert tubes cuy out and replaced with mk1 golf coilovers with mounts chopped off so i went down that route but i can't get anyone to weld steering arms on as may contain gas can anyone help its driving me insane many thanks lee

You need to get coilovers that have a damper insert, that way you can remove it while the arm is welded on.

Are you sure your coilovers are sealed 'wet' units?

remember though that the B2 subframe will touch the ground before a 15" rim tucks. Look at pics of my V6, its sat on the chassis when aired out.

You can shorten the oem strut housing and fit shorter shocks.

You can also raise the strut top mount like the later factory race cars, getting pretty hardcore though.

they are only budget coilovers as didn't want to spend a fortune for it not to work, they come back up on there own when i push the piston down so does that mean they are gas? they do have screw on top caps though so not sure how they are pressurised. many thanks for the info so far. p.s i am running porsche 911 carrera wheels 16"

There's a very good chance that budget coilovers use inserts.

You could unscrew the cap to find out, if they are wet build you can then fit inserts, if they're already inserts then you're laughing. What have you got to lose?

I ran mine on 16" Fuch for a while..
