I've read the thread on the other site.

I'd say it's a different fault since it was only 3rd gear that was an issue.

Part in question is 012311720d which is a bolt on the side of the gearbox.

Thanks for looking on the other site Mike, Im with you to a degree but thought it worth Alans time to look at the post as the issues are both relating to selection troubles out of the blue.
Mike did you manage to see the pictures in my thread on the other site, and if so are you able to make them accessible to Alan.
Thanks and good luck all

Stuart

I've linked the picture in my previous reply. I can see it. Is it not visible to anyone else ?

Hi Mike.

I'm afraid your link isn't visible...not to me at least.

Garage was out today to look at the car. Unfortunately, I wasn't there, but the wife gave him the keys to look the car over.

I gave him a call when I got back in, and he said he thought the gears themselves were ok, because he managed to get it into 3rd, then another couple of gears, and eventually all of them, but he said the lever felt 'scratchy' (it's the only word he could think of!) when going into gear. He said it was like everything would eventually line up to allow the gears to be selected...but would then move out of alignment again. Anyway, he said something about some kind of shaft having maybe sheared? Can't remember the word he used. I didn't really understand what it was he was trying to describe. My 94 yr old Mum had the doctor out to her after having fallen and hitting her head, so my mind was more on that than the car in all honesty.

Long story short, he can't take the car until next Monday at the earliest. Said he would get it up on a ramp then, and give it a look over. So I've just left it at that for now because of what's going on with my Mum.

Just going to go have a look for an exploded diagram on 7zap that might give me a better idea as to what it is that he thinks might have sheared.

Thanks everybody

I've edited the link as I've now hosted the pic on my own site. Should be visible now

Yep, that's it showing now Mike.
Thanks for the pic. Not sure what it is I'm looking at, but will look into this more in the next day or so. Will have more time then to digest it.
Been a long day today, so early night tonight.

Cheers,
Alan

Thanks for that Mike.
Alan, the shaft / pivot thing is pictured here once removed from the gearbox, in the pictures 6/7 and 8 you can see the thing refitted and a clue to its location on the side of the gearbox.
This was a while ago but I think on the o/s of the box and relatively easy to access in order to tighten, just laying on the ground
Car was 2.6 abc v6 coupe 5 speed manual 1995 M
Hope you get sorted soon and thanks again to Mike for moving info over
