Good to hear Farmer Phil! at least looking at the video, bodily it appears to be good.

Hope it doesn't take too much money to fix

Well the body work is not bad will need a little work ,the seller did admit to changing the timing belt and forgetting to tightening the bottom pulley so the next thing to do is get that head off and see what we find .

You maybe lucky and it's just bent a few valve's, there again the head could be wrecked. Worst case scenario is piston/ cylinder damage and/or cracked cams. Who know till you pull it apart???

The prevoius owner trying to turn it over on the YouTube vid will have done it no favours at all. Idiot.

You can use a 7A head, though it will require a visit too a machine shop in order to fit the water manifold and Hall sender, that's just off the top of my head there may also be other work required to convert it too ABY spec.

Anyway I hope it's not too bad, please let us know how you get on.

An update on this car ,firstly I must thank Eric (Nogin ) of Nogsport as he has let me have a complete engine ie head, block with pistons and crank, exhaust manifold with turbo .The replacement head is now at the machine shop being tested (pressure tested and to see if it requires a skim, valve guides and new stem seals ) once I get it back I will hopefully be able to get it all back together .I have made a start on removing the head off the car ,so far I have not found to much that indicates that there will be that much damage ,will keep you informed .

Sorry that its been a long time since an update ( work does get in the way ) firstly the old head was completely past its best all the inlet valves were bent and the piston crowns were all damaged ,but the other engine has been to the machine shop and has been completely rebuilt with new piston rings and bearing shells ,only thing which was not good was the crank which had some bad pitting on one of the big end journals but the 7a cranks are the same so as I have plenty of these one was sent to be chequed and then fitted to the block .Just need the time to start to take the rest of the old engine out and start to put the replacement back in that thing called work just keeps getting in the way.

Thanks Pete (Acidburn) for all the parts I have got from you. Without people like you most of us couldnt afford to keep our toys on the road especially as Audi dont want to support there older models....

Oh and by the way the Avant you are building (not breaking) is looking great .....
