Blimey, I wonder if that's still out there....

I have to say, the Sport quattro production list always makes me laugh, the manipulation of chassis numbers/scrapped/depot/motorsport build cars was very, very fishy and a bit of 'smoke and mirrors' for homologation.
Spot on Ian. Although its fair to say that list is probably 80% right. In my time I have worked on dozens of sport quattro's and a good handful of those were spurious. When I worked for,the now deceased proprietor of a leamington based Audi specialist, I regularly maintained two red, one white and a magenta coloured sport. One of the red ones had been painted red to 'comply' it was originally supplied from the factory in a non sport colour, the magenta one again was supplied from the factory in that colour - that particular car had no identity it was purchased from the Middle East and part of the work we did to get it road worthy was to obtain an identity for it via Audi who insisted the car did not exist?

I used to know of two body shells in existence (one I know still is) that have no identity......I could go on and on but the fact is they hard to pin down with any conviction.

Bit like old rally cars, half of them have at best dubious histories and I know of many folk that have poked too hard in trying to piece together a particular cars background to end up a little disappointed.

In fairness, there was probably a lot of that in many teams, for all the relevant machines.
And so it should be! A little shenanigans in the back office. Otherwise, the legends would be rather clinical....
