I don't think you are entirely wrong, feels that way to me too.

However, there may be hope.......

We are now spoon fed all the national and international news to our many devices, they said news is power well now more than ever.

It would be ironic indeed if there were more 'stupids' about now when we as a 'civilisation'(ho-ho!)are more educated/have the potential to be educated, than ever before in the human race's history....
What gets my goat is the constant need to show off, and to be seen/noticed/commentend upon, whilst showing off...and the incessant need to photograph/film...EVERYTHING!!!
Yes we all like pics of our favourite motors, people, or locations but plastering minutiae of our daily lives/existence, is just bloody ridiculous...
You'll gather I don't do Facebook

Several times this year I've successfully banished 'news' by having a proper digital detox...(even if it's for 48 hrs). I know it sounds way too bohemian but... I've just set aside proper shut off time... My work is all politics these days so listening to anything rail related or Brexit or any other political agenda immediately sets me off on the repercussions for franchises, routes or Rosco's etc... Throwing the ipad, the laptop, the personal, company and support TOC mobile phones all in the bin for a set period of time is actually very therapeutic.

Mackenzie50, I am with you on the face book thing but I find myself using the Classic Audi Forum as a sort of social media, mainly car talk but I do post other stuff in General Chat section, some may call me a Hippocratic but I do like sharing on this forum

You need to watch Idiocracy. There is a dodgy full length movie on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFh9MzRfekY

Youtube has far more original news content than terrestrial telly, clicky click:

I thought Mary Whitehouse was over reacting, but I get her now. Everyone seems to have celebrities as their yardstick.

A survey of teenagers in the US recently had "Become famous" as the top answer when asked what they wanted to achieve in life! The first time a profession was not mentioned.

I don't remember any of the girls I grew up with having any self-esteem or image problems either. Nowadays I hear kids being mentally ill over this sort of thing by the time they are 10!

I agree our society may have become more tolerant over the last 25 years, but we have lost something. A greater lack of respect and empathy has developed. The culture of the individual is rising.

I'm shocked at how much verbal disrespect Police officers absorb nowadays and I'm worried at how many doctors and nurses I've seen who just don't care.

It will worsen before it improves, if at all.....

I'm equally shocked by how much abuse they dish out (not all, but a few). Like a lot of jobs, I wonder if the criteria have relaxed to ensure the vacancies are filled.
It's getting bad all around, and it isn't limited to certain age groups.

I think this year's winner has to be the little Chinese girl student who handed her phone to a perfect stranger at the top of one the Sussex chalk cliffs to take a photo of her jumping in the air on a very breezy day. A gust caught her and she went straight over the edge!

Very sad but if that is the level of common sense of the average student........
