Coxy, I've created a monster. Ardbeg is serious whisky. Like Laphroaig this Islay single malt has tons of body, medicinal or phenolics(yes, as in cold medicine) and smokey peat flavor. This whisky steps out of my flavor range by a bit. I prefer Ardbeg Connoisseurs Choice to Laphroaig.
I definately fall into the medium bodied, nutty, honey, vanilla cluster of Singles. West Highland and Speysides repeatedly woo me. You're stepping out with the Islays. Let me know what you think, please. The Yamazaki I've discussed before. Very nice Whisky. |

I've not tried Laphroaig as yet.
I've tried a couple of Islays and I must some, I adore the Ardbeg. What I've tried to do is build up a small collection of various single malts from various casks, and try and find a few which for me, stand out above the rest. I picked up a bottle of Ardbeg about a month ago and put it back after a bit of deliberation and picked up the Balvenie instead, which I must say, I also enjoy, but this one has really gone head and shoulders into the lead for me. I love the intense rich peaty and smokey flavours which seem to last for an age on the palate. |

There are so many great whisky's out there. Once your palete has gotten to the point you are at, it's a wonderland. Cheers.

A friend brought a bottle of this over the house. A very nice Speyside with Highland characteristics. The Cragganmore Distiller's Choice.

Bought a bottle of Caol Ila last week. Very very similar to Ardbeg and very tasty!

No doubt about it you've become an Islay man. Bold statement my friend.

We had a BBQ and party at ours 2 weeks ago and I introduced a few of my friends to a few choice single malts (we did manage to sample twelve that night!) and to be far 1 of them did like the Islay malts, so I am happy to say, I am not alone!!! and I say that whislt sipping on a small glass of Aberlour, still one of my all round favorites! I must thank you for opening my eyes and broadening my horizons! |

This is a whisky I can recommend highly. Generally the Glenlivet line is not my favorite but the Cask Strength Nadurra really steps out. An excellent marraige of Speyside honey and malty sweetness with the casual if not brutal undertones of an Islay.
