Next Sunday (18th July) sees us back to Gurston Down near Salisbury for the hillclimb.
From the entry list I see that we will be joined by John (Tubsport) in his Audi 80 (turbo quattro), and the Ferrari and TR clubs. It looks like the bikes will be at this meeting as well.

Just catching up on last weekends action at Gurston.
Weather turned out good and the car went well .
I knocked half a second of my previous best which was good enough for 4th in class, couldn't quite catch John in his 80 for 3rd though.
Andy wasn't performing quite so well but it was self inflicted !

As John has already mentioned, the meeting was cut short due to a pretty serious accident.
One of the 2 EVOs, who were battling for the road going class win, lost control over the finish line where they were doing close to 110 mph. I haven't heard too many details but the car ended up on it's roof in the trees. They extracated him quite quickly and treated him on site. I was walking past the ambulance as the driver stepped out, he did look a bit shaken , but only suffered bruises. I understand the car won't be seen again!
The organisers decided to abandon the meeting as the delay would have ment a late finish. I have a feeling they have a bit of a curfew with the neighbours.

We didn't get our second runs in the afternoon, so I was denied the opportunity of taking the 3rd spot off John .

The car wasn't revving quite as cleanly, especially off the line. Our first speed trap was down 5 mph on previous. It was a warmer day, so we need to look at our intake temperature map , I think it's taking too much timing off.

Do apologise the front end of my car looks like such a shed.... most of it weighed something and so got cut off! I could of course do with the plastic headlight surrounds and the little trim panel attached to the front crossbeam that sits between the grille and the bumper... if anyone has these!

@Tim, I think i may have gone quicker in Timed 2 as well tim... shame I only head down to Gurston once a year, I fancy the re-match! Oh and rear driveshafts dont want to fit the front of my car :-(

We've checked the wheel nuts are tight after Oulton Park so we are now ready for a return visit to Wiscombe Park (near Seaton, Devon) this weekend (4th & 5th September).

I think John (Tubsport) is joining us in his 80, so if you are in the South West there should be some good classic Audi action.

There's a few events coming up, we also have:

12th September - Gurston Down Hillclimb, Salisbury, Wiltshire
19th September - Chivenor Sprint, Barnstaple, North Devon
25/26th September - Manor Farm Hillclimb, Charmouth, Devon
3rd October - Clay Pigeon Sprint, Yeovil, Somerset
9th October - Audi Driver Day, Castle Combe
16th October - Castle Combe Sprint

It's a good job I'm not ridiculously busy at work .

Wiscombe was a bit of a strange meeting for us, but overall, a good weekend.
Niether Andy or I seemed to be anywhere near our previous pace.
The car was running well, the weather was good (on Saturday anyway).

We attributed our slightly slower times to a few factors.
Our last visit was back in May when we had 2 meetings in close succession.
Before Oulton Park we had the shocks revalved to stiffen them up a bit, changed the top mounts to offset ones to give more camber and castor (on the front), and also fitted a rear antiroll bar. The car felt quite different!
The previous weekend's visit to Oulton Park on the rally track was spent wrestling with the car to try and get it sideways. Hillclimbs are a very different dicipline where precision and smoothness is the key.
We both found car was turning in better due to the suspension modifications, which we had to compensate for and we had to recalibrate our driving style from Oulton Park!

Anyway enough of the "racing driver" excuses, we weren't doing too bad on Saturday but didn't do very well on our last runs. John, in his 80 however, suddenly found the groove and put in a stonking time to leap frog both of us! Sunday started (very) wet, but dried through the day and we managed to keep John at bay in the trickier conditions.

Nicky was working Saturday so I have some paddock pictures.
