Glad she's driving well mate.

Sounded nice when you flew past on the A38!

I'd like to see her again in a month or so just to check the fuelling's setled and OK as I stripped the metering head. Only had a few hours of running toi set up before you had her back. It was spot on when she went but I like to be sure!

Did you fix this?

There's a gesture called the "Audi 200 salute" - Audi 200 drivers passing one another salute by slapping the top of the instrument binnacle on the right side. This generally restores speedo function for a day or two.

The problem is that the speedo is mounted on the PCB by being slid down over several square pins - over time the solder cracks at the bottom of the pins and you get intermittent contacts.

Scott's site describes where to touch a soldering iron to repair these cracks.

Hi guys!

Ben,shes going really nicely.Did you say the rocker cover gasket didnt come in time?I ask as shes still leaking oil and Im sure you said summit about the cover. At the time I was more into the spirited driving (Simmo patented phrase) in the 90.I very much enjoyed that As for the fuelling,Im not so sure here mate.A couple of times Ive started it and its run rough, sounding like its only running on 4.After revving it a fair few times,it settles.Im thinking of putting a new fuel filter on and some Redex in the tank.Sure,I can bring her back over when it suits you though mate, perhaps I can learn something. Can I watch???

OK,the speedo Phil.Yes I have read what Scott writes of this fix and will combine what you have told me with his fix,to cure.I know I can ask Martyn (Dest) to assist with soldering advice and assistance Our soldering resembles baby seagull effluent apres the odd iffy whelk!! Thanks for that advice mate

Baggee, yes mate the second I got on the A38 I opened her up.Shes a real licence loser now.Shes on cam far quicker with the WR stick in,and matched to that turbo so ready for surging action.Pulls up hills like a Unimog on charlie!!!

Alan,yes !!

Sorry no front interior shots.Ive deleted them by accident, unless Will (86audicoupe) still has them ???

I would guess this car has cam cover studs with shoulders. It's quite likely it originally shipped ex-factory with a cork gasket, and it's easy to over-torque the nuts on these and drag the cover down into the gasket at the holes.

The solution is to flatten the cover with two bits of hardwood and a large incremental adjustment device - a.k.a. a tapometer.

Hey Steve,

Nice pics. Nice ride.

Keep in mind Audis are very sensitve to vacuum leaks. You are on the right track checking the valve cover gasket as mine would almost stall when I removed the oil cap with motor running.

Also make sure your injector seals and injector insert seals are in good condition. If you have access to a fuel pressure gauge, make sure the pressure is not leaking down while the car is sitting. Leaking injectors, fuel pump check valve, and accumulator will cause rough running upon starting.

You should have an injector shroud connected to a cooling fan which prevents vaporlock on the turbo models. If this is missing or the fan not operative it can cause the problem you are experiencing.

One step at a time and you'll get it sorted.
