She knows we're off out (in the Rep), but she knows not where....

Well, a successful weekend, even if only for the fact the car made it through without any major issues .
A bit of weep from the cam cover gasket on Saturday and a split top radiator hose on Sunday, but nothing that stopped the fun.

On top of the relief of the car running sweetly all weekend, we had some fantastic weather on Satuday and even better on Sunday for the 2 events.
I beat my friend and double driver Andy at the Gurston Down Hillclimb and he pipped me at the Clay Pigeon Sprint by a similar amount on the following day, so we were both happy!

It was great to see some recreation fans (or were they real ones ), Simmo and Booty, at Gurston. I hope you enjoyed yourselves and thanks for your support.

We are now looking forward to next weekend when we will be at Wiscombe Park Hillclimb for both days (24th & 25th). http://www.g.pickett.btinternet.co.uk/

Wiscombe Park hillclimb last weekend, a game of two halves!

Saturday was fine weather and the course was in the best condition we have ever seen it, especially for the beginning of the season. During the day we good grip on the hairpins and bettered our best times twice. Still not sure how we managed it, but our two new P.B. times were exactly the same to the hundredth of a second! I did 46.09, Andy matched it with a 46.09, I did a 45.87, Andy matched it again, with (you've guessed it) a 45.87! We are usually quite close but that's rediculous.

However, on the first practice run of Sunday morning the car was lacking power and had a strange noise from under the bonnet. Turned out that the roller bearing in the turbo had collapsed so game over..
Apologies to (audi)Derek who had just turned up to see us leaving with the car on the trailer .

The local company, who built the turbo, have stripped it and found that the internal oil jet had been blocked and starved the bearing of oil. We are thinking that the debris, which must have been miniscule to have passed through the oil feed restrictor hole, could have been dislodged from inside the oil feed pipe, as the oil is well filtered by the small turbo oil filter.

So, the turbo has been rebuilt, a new oil feed pipe being made, oil and filter change and we should be back in business again.
We've had more problems already this year than we've had in the previous two! Hopefully things will be better from now on, especially with Chatsworth looming .

Next outing is on Monday for a sprint at Colerne airfield near Castle Combe.
Unfortunately it's not open to spectators being an M.O.D. site.

The sprint at Colerne airfield went well with car performing faultlessly .
A cold north wind didn't allow the temperature to rise above 6 degrees all day and an afternoon hail shower put pay to us improving our times on the second run . Summer must be on the way .

We managed first and second in class (don't ask how many were in our class ).

Next outing is back to Wiscombe Park in Devon next weekend (15th/16th May).

Final instructions now through for our second visit to Wiscombe Park this weekend (15th/16th May)
That's the one near Seaton in Devon if anyone fancies popping along.

I see from the entry list there S4, RS6 and W12 A8 will be there. I'm not sure how he fits that A8 up through the trees and around the bends .
There will be motorbikes on Saturday as well.

We have a return visit to Castle Combe this Saturday (26th) for a sprint.

Usual format, 2 practice sessions in the morning, 2 competitive runs in the afternoon.
3/4 lap runs, starting from the start line and finishing just before the pit exit.
Free entry for spectators and we are hoping for good weather.
