TOP WORK THAT MAN!!
Watching this with interest!!, thanks for the measurement. I think were both going to end up with gmax dampers though
Like you I've got to wait till the end of the month before I can make any purchases... and I'm building quite a large shopping list!!
Have you bought those camber shims?? saw your post somewhere on here

Default Coilovers / adjustable platforms..

Not got the camber shims yet, be a job for when I upgrade the rear brakes, not in a rush on that tho as have plenty of other things to do...

I'll be buying these soon, will let you know the result, I might actually leave it a month or so as I won't have time to do it until my Easter half term...

Default Bloody typical!

For all my Tooing and Frooing, posting up stupid questions to you lot and hours of homework. I have ordered new Front and rear dampers from Demon Tweeks.

While at it I ordered sleeves for the front struts to convert to Coilovers and finally a Rear coilover conversion Kit to ( Convert your telescopic dampers to coilovers ) Brilliant I thought, that should about cover it!!!

Well they turned up today, and the rear damper diameter is 38mm - same as standard. And the coilover conversion Kit is for 50 - BLOODY - mm diameter - Like a Cock in a shirt sleeve!

Did I drop a bollock somewhere??? is there a 38mm diameter kit available?? I cant see one, and the bloody shops shut now so I cant ask anyone till tomorrow

Or am I missing something and I should be converting the whole damper somehow to 50mm????????????

Can someone help me out here??

I will try and post some photo's when I have charged the camera if it would make a differance

Has anyone got any further with this?

ie the rear damper diameter question or the front shock insert dilemma??

The rest looks pretty straight forward so I am going to start buying bits now my paypal is in a bit of credit.

Hey Richie, I have made some serious progress with the front and rear struts, i have got a thread running in the rest section under 1981 Audi Coupe GT5S. It's been a rocky road as I hadn't found any info on how to do the coil over set up. so I pretty much found my own way
Anyhow the car is on it's wheels now, the only major problem is that I made them using the B2 80 struts and unfortunately means I'm limited to the brakes I can fit, largest being the 280mm golf g60 discs using a calliper adapter from a mk1 Golf GTI.
I also made a mistake when making the struts on the bench, to get full adjustment I ground the welds off and moved the track control arm down about 1.5" to be able to use the full thread of the threaded tubes - I didn't realise at the time that they now interfere with tyre. So they now require a 10mm spacer to clear and work properly.
Have a look at the thread and if you have any questions let me know

Bry.

Right, so the rear platform is the 2" one with the bit welded on top to locate it on the smaller diameter shock?

As for the front would a shorter spring get round moving the steering arm down, thus preventing the wheel contact issue?

Missed the bit about the panhard rod issue, solution looks pretty straight forward, take it is to shorten it?

Hi mate

The rear doesn't require anything welded on the top, simply slide tube over shock, you will need to find something to fill the difference in diameter to stop the sleeve moving about. I used a length of rubber cut down and glued in place.
As for a shorter spring I raised the same question and was told the longer I could have the spring the better the ride quality, so that's why I did it. You could probably use the shorter spring, what you say makes sense.

Following doninphi's issues I made an adjuster to overcome the problem but yes purely to adjust it in

Have fun mate

Yes mate just cut and shut the panhard rod. I made mine adjustable with nuts and a rod welded in so I could spin one end, then when it was right I welded it back up for strength. It was about 10mm I removed iirc for 40mm drop in ride height.

I think I need to take a look at how close my fronts are wheel to the mounting then before I cut mine, but I suppose that also depends on your wheel choice!

8" rim on et20 for me, so should be quite clear, I could go to et14 with a 6mm spacer at a push without arch issues I think...
