Nice Gordon.
Do you wear it?
How often have you had to service it?

To be fair I dont think Rolexs need servicing that often. It was just that mine had stopped twice due to it being either hit fairly hard against scaffold poles and the other time dropping it about 40 ft off some scaffold. Not exactly typical usage!
When they service it they replace the face (scratched to buggery each time) and polish all the metal etc. When it comes back it really is like a new watch.
My Dads just had Rolex given its first service in 25 years.
he has also had Omegas and they were nice aswell

Gordons watch is the same as my old man had. he always went on about its Space connections.#
i think he sold it in a deal that involved a roulette wheel!

Stuart you must be hitting it hard, word on the Rolex crystals is that they are really high quality.

My Seiko, which is a mineral crystal, mid-grade, does pretty well. After 2 years around iron tools I've only got 1 scratch. They next grade of Seiko comes with high grade crystal, and they are almost warantied not to scratch.

For years I wore it all the time, then needed another watch as it was in for service, so now I alternate mainly wearing the Omega when it is in no danger of getting scratched. My other has loads of weld splatter all over the face!!, so good job I had the Seiko on.
I only get it serviced when there's a problem probably every four years now, I found that it would be more frequent if it wasn't used much. They do recommend yearly, but then they would !!
The reason being that it's wind up clockwork and it has six hands I guess!!

you'd be surprised how easy it is to do. Get a face coverd in plaster, embed a load of grit in it and then add a scaffold pole/stone wall etc and after 1000 days of this you'll scratch it!
The type of plaster we used is like "plaster of paris" and we did a lot of restoration work on old buildings which typically involved reaching into tight areas.
When you mention the scratches Rolex point out that they expect "normal wear".
in the 3 years since my last service theres not a mark on it despite wearing it in the engine bay of my car and on the garage floor.
No wonder my hands are like an old mans!
