Firstly, thanks for all the comments - really appreciate the help and support in solving this. I am going to start stripping her out once again at the weekend to see if I can solve this problem, which means the TT is coming out of the garage and the cab will go in to prevent any more water ingress.

Its such a ball ache having so little storage at the moment to work on the car, I really need a lockup somewhere local!

So, checklist built:

- windscreen seals
- top seals of hardtop
- door strips (although these were all new for AITP)
- rear lenses (although these were all new and properly sealed)
- boot and seals
- door seals
- back of both front wings
- buy some talc
- find a smoke machine

What a nightmare!

I am convinced this is coming from somewhere near the front of the car, it appears to be wettest at the front of the passenger footwell, drivers side is completely dry.

I hate the car at the moment

Yes I'm afraid I know that feeling too sometimes. One feels that the car has let you down after all the care and attention you have lavished on it, not to mention the money!

Is your car parked on the level when you get the problem? If it is, then I'd be guessing water ingress from the front somewhere. As you know, I've got a hardtop on my Cabrio, and that was allowing water in from above the left front window. Water was running down the inside of the window and then on down the front door panel and thus to the carpet. It was worse if the window was pointing to the South West ( where all our gales and storms tend to come from ....and we've had more than our fair share this Winter ).

I wonder if it might be worth taking the hard top off ( a pain I know ), and seeing how water tight the car is with the hood up? If you still get water in, that would tend to eliminate the hard top.

I was getting water into the boot too, on the left hand side. Plan was to replace all the sealant around the light unit, but before I did that I tried just a gentle tightening squeeze on all four nuts that hold the unit in place, and now no more water coming in. Maybe only a temporary fix for me, but one less thing to worry about immediately.

Hope you get it sorted.....I hate water leaks and reading this thread and others, VW and Audi are certainly not the best when it comes to making cars watertight.

Have had a few Japanese cars recently, Subaru, Toyota, Suzuki and none had any water ingress problems.

Wishing you the best of luck.

Crossle is a local and he recommended a garage rental company that he used, not checked them out myself (yet!) but sounds promising; check out his comment (P12, #117) on my Northants Natter thread for the details.
Also, and as I said before, perhaps a folding garage is an option for you? Here's a link for a local company that makes them: http://www.cover-systems.co.uk/folding-garages/

Hate is a very strong word 1781cc...
I'm sure that once you've determined/fixed the cause you'll feel much better about it all.
Have to admit, it's driving me nuts that I cant get stuck in to help you, niggles drive me nuts at the best of times, and well, you know how much I like your cabbie.

Oh and it goes without saying, try out the talc suggestion before stripping/drying out the carpet etc.

yeah, a garage in itself isn't really big enough, I need something that is more akin to a lockup on farmland, so I can put both the TT and the Cab in there with tools and all my junk, then I can just bugger off there for a whole day at a time.

You say hate is a strong word, its not strong enough for how I feel at the moment, I half have the mindset to break the thing into pieces and flog it on eBay - but I can't be bothered with the hassle that brings!

I might be able to help with this –*it's exactly the problem I had with my first gen AllRoad. Have you thoroughly checked all the drain holes etc in the bulkhead plenum? It's a while since I've been in a Coupe plenum, but I imagine that it's the same as the Cabrio, but I expect different to the AllRoad. What was happening there was that a kind of revolting algae had grown on leaves etc in the drain hole to form a sort of semi permeable block. In heavy rain the water was filling the plenum right up, to the point of overtopping the pollen filter and running into the footwell. Took me ages (years) to find the problem because I never fancied stripping the plenum cover off while standing in the rain, and by the time I ever remembered to check, the water had slowly seeped away. But the blockage obviously got worse and worse so one day when the footwell was again soaking I pinged the bonnet, to find the plenum with about three gallons of water in it. Had to remove the battery and everything to get to the drain hole, poking it clear and watching the water gush out was strangely satisfying.

hmmm, thats good ammunition to look at, I will see if I can bring myself to do out there with spanners and see if I can resist the temptation to start unbolting everything and listing on eBay... grrr

I will take the hardtop off though and see if that makes much of a difference while I am at it

I have every faith in ya buddy.

Besides from which, I'm in a really good mood atm and you wouldn't want that to change; I might just be tempted to come over and tighten a few additional nuts & bolts with that there spanner of yours!

spent some time on my b4 today to try and sort out the leaks, I'm starting t think I've bought an Audi colander it's leaking from everywhere ,sorted the back out now, new gum on the rear lights and reseating the boot rubber, now to the front, the door seals are leaking so i think I'll have to locate some new ones but it's leaking from behind the dash as well 'great'! After lots of water and trying to squeeze under the dash I arrived at the pollen filter housing it was fairly dry?? So I turned to using water dyed green and yes it was defiantly comeing in around the housing, taking it off I revealed a sponge gasket inside the housing which was a little tired looking( don't know if I could get a new one?) but also realised that it had been off before and the bolt to left had been over tightened and cut the metal and the water was coming in around there as well. So a new washer, some silicon, tightened it all down I'm hoping that has sorted that leak (fingers crossed)a bit late to try it
