yep, if the system won't pressurise it does not heat up properly, found that recently with a leaky rad. and a year ago with a leaking core plug.

but at the same time i have some image of a physics teacher or college lecturer telling us that coolant is prevented from boiling because its a sealed system(because of the pressure)... though my mind does consist mainly of jelly!

the 'engineers' will work it out in the morning i'm sure.. good one! people do always overlook the obvious

rad cap would be an easy fix.... but im pretty sure its the heater matrix... have a new one here now so ill change it anyway.. theres a lot of scale in the hoses too... so probably blocked up the matrix..

started the task of fitting the heater matrix today... wasnt looking forward to it.. got stuck in and all went pretty much to plan... have the new one in place now ad the dash refited... get it all back together tomorrow.... old one was definatly restricting flow... took it out and connected it to the garden hose... gave it a couple of slaps and the mud started to flow out...so it been filed under bin... hopefully that will be the end of the heat issue...

ahhhhhhh..... feel the heat..... lovely lovely heat.....

all back together and working first class.... so the answer to the question was a blocked heater matrix...

em, so apparently it wasnt the matrix!!!!! its not cured it after all, i had a nissan almera here yesterday doing the same thing, had it all apart too, water pump was working, thermostat was working, bad flow coming from the heater hoses, so im thinking head gasket is to blame on both cars,

the audi hasnt bee on the road for around 2 years now, its tucked up in the corner of the mancave, fired it up today for a giggle but still couldnt get it to warm up...

head gasket kit here but im thinking of a 7A conversion later so will see how it goes...
