does it really make a huge difference? checked the s6 handbook and right enough, it does say to use the high octane stuff . .
Yes it makes a difference. The ecu has knock detection, so you can run both, but with a power loss on lower octane. When the ecu detects detonation it will pull timing/boost (another reason you dont want a bleed valve as then ecu cannot lower boost, only pull timing when it detects knock).

You also notice the difference if you get a batch of bad fuel, depending on how the fuels octane has been raised (e85 or octane boosters?) it can go off, so some sites are better than others depending on turnover.

ok, that's a lesson! i'll give it the fancy stuff next time and see how it performs. i had a look through that fault list on the smjautotechnik but it's gobbledegook to me i'm afraid - i wouldn't have a clue where to start!

What are your plans for it? Run as is or get it chipped?

Likewise.
Unless you have super deep pockets, you need to start learning about your car
With the 20vt I'd be super surprised if you can't find all the help you need on S2forum

I am quite happy to do a boost leak test and give it a look over, just drop me a PM.

We can leak test, clear codes, take it for a run and check for any codes again.
