After much cursing and swearing, got the brakes bled.
Pedal travel is a little further than it used to be.
Handbrake operates as they should....Yippee !!!

Did you not put cling-film under the cap and clamp the pipe?

I had cling film over the cap....but as I was changing the flex hoses over to braided steel ones couldn't clamp the pipes......
