yes they do,centre diff is the torsen diff. then a rear lockable diff activated between the seats, cuts out once you go over 15 mph I think. It also cuts off the A.B.S as well while the rear diff is locked.

This Pearl V8 was owned by Stephen Fitzpatrick back in 2001, when I went to view it to buy it. He was a friend of Tim Cooper, who at the time worked just around the corner from him at Ellesmere Port. The car was on 111k at the time and went very, very well. It was up for £4K at the time, and the only reasons why I never bought it was that the heater matrix was goosed, and the drivers door had been keyed quite badly. Being Pearl White, this was a big put off for me. It was a lovely car, otherwise. Sad to see it this way, but the price of parts versus the value of the car is a no brainer. Al Parker remembers it being for sale at JP Rose in Macclesfield when he had his Tornado Red G plate 200 quattro (Martin Kennedy's car) and it was keyed even back then.

yep i worked ay Links in Buxton, when the car was sold new and the guy i think lived in Macc, it was a stunning car, does anyone know if it still lives, albeit at the side of a garage? i still remember the salesman that did the handover, with the customer and they had an audience of mechs and sales staff and me looking at it, probably quite intimidating really, but apart from the odd pearl Quattro, this was a bit different. i also remember our bodyshop painting a white 200 quattro avant in pearl, cause the customer wanted it to be different, if i recall we charged him £2500 back in 88. the car was stripped and there were bits everywhere. but at least with being brand new they came off ok. in hindsight i wish i had a camera with me at work!!

hi Bazil,

I am quoting from the original "Audi S4 and Audi S4 Estate" brochure sat in front of me pages 20-21

....devoloped and refined over10 years of top level motor sport, the quattro formula offers an extra dimension to driving, with a degree of security and precision useful in day to day conditions and invaluable when the roads turns slippery.

Power is transmitted to all 4 wheels via a central "torque sensing" differential able to determine which wheels have least grip and redistribute it accordingly.
In normal driving the power is split 50/50 front to rear, but can vary from 75/25 to 25/75 and back in an instant, if for example patchy wet or slippery conditions are encountered. All of this is entirely automatic, with no driver input required. There is additionally a manual rear differential lock operable at speeds below 15 mph,to assist traction in the stickiest of situations.

hope this is clarifies it a bit

MY UrS4 has an auto transmission as well a 4 speed box with the ability to "learn" your driving style and changes gears to suite curtesy pre programmed ecu for the gearbox.
