Back in 1988 a farmer friend of ours borrowed his Dads 900 Aero and we went five up from Stafford to Shrewsbury nightclubbing in a very quick time. Nice black, three door one with tan leather. Cannot for the life of me, remember the journey home.

The thing is, if you look at the spec/performance of a 900 Turbo, it doesnt look too impressive these days!

My favourite was the Saab 99 EMS from the seventies, one my Dad's friends had one, always really liked it. When I was married after leaving VAG, me and the ex wife almost bought a new 900 3 door in red, they were very well priced, but it would have meant selling my 2 NSU's, which at the time I just couldnt do.

The lastest Saab's look shite, with that chrome round the headlamps and that - looks like Dame Edna's glasses - the designer who did that should go down with em.

I've liked SAAB's and enjoyed driving the 900 turbo and 9000 turbo (that reminded me of the Renault 25 Turbo)... All were 'interesting' cars... But, were, in many ways, a bit like modern Audis, fine cars, but one pinch of mediocrity too much...

The 900 turbo was certainly not 'mediocrity personified', but would have been a pretty dull car were it not for it's mad power delivery.... And that was something that probably put the crappers up most buyers...

Looking at that webpage you shouldn't have to worry about that for too long now.

This is criminal, they have only gone downhill since gm bought them, gave them a load of rubbish to work with, then drop them when it hasn't gone right. Might have to start looking for a 99 or 900 turbo now.

in a previous life i worked for saab, on pre-prod models.

The saab 95's were amongst the best quality wise when launched in 2000, the 93s less so and the cab's were awful tbh

they did a special edition 93 engineered by TWR called the Viggen, with the HOT 2.3 turbo motor, awesome in straight line but would not go round a corner on throttle, in fact they only really changed direction on full throttle with the torque steer!
