Default custom cages

I bought a custom cage kit for my rep, I was really disapointed with what I got, I ended up buying 12m of seamless tube and remaking the rear half of the cage and some of the braces as there's was nothing like a good fit. I would not recommend them to anyone. You would be better off buying a pipe bender from machine mart and making your own.

Really Andy. Mindyou I suppose John 'O' Connor could make a silks purse out of a Sows ear and make anything fit where needed! Was yours hard to fit then?

I remember Richard (Booty) going through this a while back, he went from patient anticipation, through despair and into anger with the wall of silence. ISTR Safety Devices bolt in cage isn't available directly either, it has to come through an agent or stockist.

I think the truth is that Custom Cages probably don't want to deal with 'end-users' as they only want their kit installed by approved installers. Why should they provide help to loads of 'Joe Public' when their business customers are actually their own approved installer outfits.

If you want to buy a Sony TV, you go to Dixons/Comet etc or even a Sony Centre (independent retailer) for help, service and warranty. You don't phone or send e-mails to Sony in Japan. By the same token, why should a manufacturer (who never has a direct business relationship with you) take valuable time and effort to deal with you directly?

Custom Cages are a relatively small firm with only 18 employees. I'm sure that it could need another person there (another wage etc.) just to deal with the public if that was what they chose to do.

I am going to be fitting a bespoke cage to my car but it will be based on the CC FIA quattro cage and will be supplied and fitted by a Custom Cages approved installer. If I have any questions, I would expect to ask the retailer/installer - not CC themselves.

Edit to my last:

Apologies!

Just noticed that they actually sell these cages vie their own site so that's a whole different ball-game in terms of customer service.

I think the point about 'approved installers' still stands as they will doubtless give no warranty/customer service if it is bought for DIY fitting.

Mine was to be a full bespoke cage to my own personal design and would have been substantial profit to them..... Sadly the person I was told to phone who shall remain nameless seemed uninterested when I phoned, and then never returned my call and was "out of office" at each return call i made.

Protection & Performance is who I will use although the last cage from them wasnt the neatest of welding tbh.
