Its so frustrating trying to get anything like lights, Rear lights, indicators etc... Or interior items. Why dont Audi release that they have built cars that last and last, so whats the point of deleting everything after a certain time span.... Yes before you say it, to sell you a new one!!!

manufactures make available parts to a certain time frame after the production line or model has been superceded say 7 years or so.....

we need to realise that we are needing parts for a car thats 30 YEARS OLD next year.(Ur's)
you cant expect any manufacturer to still be supplying parts for this car can you?

ok other German marques do but perhaps the question WHY is a good start?

all the tooling dies and mould will almost certainly been binned by now,if not then its down to the bean counters to trim unnecessary expense and maintaining older car parts is money not well spent.

ok the Ur has a unique case in that it put Audi on the map in motorsport etc BUT what REALLY gets on my tits is that Audi A.G wheel out thier RR for P.R purposes and bleats on about "quattro" then wheels it back into its air conn'ed box.

SAD state of affairs so we either find someone to make parts or wait until some other poor sod has an acccident making their car a right off so parts become a first come first served .

Yes we can.
Every other car I have owned (and that's quite a few), I've never ended up smacking my head up against a brick wall trying to get parts.
3 weeks to get a windscreen for my 80 Sport (and that came from Jay-Puglife) and then the fitter broke the rear view mirror so that was another 2 weeks getting one of those! 5 weeks the cars was off the road!

It's not just Porsche, VW, Merc, BMW that supply parts for the older cars, you'll find it with a lot of other marques. Nige has been able to source many parts for his Mazda through main dealers.

I can understand the implications of the cost of keeping tooling etc to make old parts, but that's not the main issue. Audi GMBH sold all it's old stock of parts to a private company in Germany a few years ago as they didn't want to hang on to them for whatever reason.
They state they only need to keep parts for 7 years.

so..... whats that company done with these tooling bits then?

a) what parts for tooling was sold off?
b) was it sold off to scrap?
c) havent heard any anouncement from anyone advertsing the re manufacture of NLA parts.
d) the storage and logisitics of parts kept for a dwindling number of cars must be a problem for those who have to keep such stuff.
e) you found 2 screens over a 5 WEEK period, not everyone can wait such lengths of time for a part... staring a car in a garage or under cover may not be possible for everyone, also another vehicle is to be available while this one was off the road.
Not everyone has a fleet of cars to choose from either.

Audi A.G/UK is either sat in a sound proofed office OR they dont give a dam.... the latter I suspect!!

In my experience, there is no problem getting anything made that is nla from Audi. The problem is cost. Lots of these older cars of ours exist now in very small numbers, labour is expensive therefore remanufacture on a low volume is expensive. Quattro's are relatively common by comparison to the likes of an 80 sport, and still most owners will not buy spares before they need to. Again many of these cars are third or fourth cars, that cover a nominal mileage, so demand is almost non existant.

There needs to be a fundamental shift in both owners and manufacturer policys to make it all harmonious.

Hopefully this new site can unite lots of interested parties and something positive can be achieved.

Good luck and good on you guys.

I say we sort out a trip to ingoldstadt and swarm over them in Urs, Cq's, 80's, 90's, 100's, 200s and totally block the town off.
Theyd take some notice if a huge number of enthusiasts turned up on their doorstep waving "we want spares" placards surely?.....either that or we'd get deported... worth a shot tho.

see you next year at Ingolstadt then for the 30th anniversary of the quattro. Would be a perfect time to stage such " a protest" especially with the support of European numbers. Strength in numbers as thay say
