Indeed. It reminds me of Henry Toivonen, which crashed in Corsica 1986 and died. Crash was quite like Latvala`s. There are other similarities also with Jari-Matti and Henry.

But Toivenen only dropped a few metres off the road and ruptured the fuel tank. Which incidentally him and Cresto were sitting on, as it formed part of the floor in the Lancia. When you couple a sharp penertrating object like a tree stump, a falling Lancia and a fuel tank with aviation fuel in it, no one was going to win. The pictures of the remains of their car are horrific. The fact remains though that motorsport is dangerous. Latvala and Co were bloody lucky, a testament to Malcolm Wilsons M Sport build / design.
