Many thanks Mart,

what wheel/tyre combination are you running? The best method would be from the centre of the wheel to the arch lip... (measuring the centre hole width and subtracting half from the final measurement) if that makes sense. Its hard to be exactly accurate but providing its a few mm's in or out i can work out the spring length.

thanks
Jay

Yup makes perfect sense. I have two CQ's both standard so I'll try both out and see what answers I get.

Standard 14 inch Ronal R8' 195/65 as seen here in the one with newish OE suspension...

I need them for the southern meet so its now or never. Help!
Don't forget, you can have a 60mm lowered spring with the same recoil value as a standard. So height and ride levels are two separate things...

One of my CQ's was the same, it was shockingly poor. You could feel everything on the road, as the lower part of your spine was pounded into mush.....

I'd certainly be of the opinion that the CQ / GT look best at standard ride height. If you lower them, the position of the wheels within the arches looks kind of odd.......

I think the best way to improve the look is to fir the 7*15 R8 Ronals, and maybe to fit URq bumpers front and rear. Might do that with one of my cars....

This is how God and Audi intended them to look (when new)

No problem, I'm sure that I'm in the minority on this......

Right then 40mm it is. I want the look but more importantly I need comfort. Are G-Max products any good or should I spend more money on Spax?

Can't say anything about G-Max as never used them Spax are good . I've fitted supersport
kit to my b3 80 there made by Spax for the german market . I'm very happy with them

As per Puglifes request, I measured each corner - slight discrepencie on each of the corners but here are the averages. Both were taken with little fuel in the tanks (both on E)

The numbers are from the centre of the wheel to the outside arch lip... (measuring the centre hole width and subtracting half from the final measurement)

I have two CQ's one with new OE suspension done in 2004 and one CQ with original suspension (with one coil spring replaced with OE spring back in 2000)

CQ with new genuine suspension ride height is 360mm all round

CQ with genuine but old suspension ride height is 345mm all round

Hope that helps you out a bit

cheers mart,

i've noticed my car sits lower on one side and front is lower than the back.... my measurements were as follows, unknown springs with worn top mounts (accounting for probably 10-15mm excessive play).

FRONT
N/S = 300mm
O/S = 295mm
BACK
N/S = 335mm
O/S = 320mm

I might try go for uprated stock length springs as the stock ride height isnt too bad.... that or find some -40mm uprated. Does anybody know the rating on stock springs? 200lb or 180lb etc? Does anybody have a new set of springs that could be borrowed for testing purposes?
