Drums are perfectly adequate on the back. If Audi thought they were rubbish, they wouldn't have fitted them on the Sport would they? Same power as Mk2 Golf GTI 8V (which has discs and the calipers seize, which is why people upgrade them to Golf Mk4 calipers).
VW / Audi rear calipers always always always seize. Because they don't get used enough....... If going to 256mm, don't forget to change the master cylinder too (unless MSH tells me I am talking rubbish again........) Else you will get spongey pedal with too much travel. |

Yeah, they are adequate for 256X13 on front - I have such set of brakes on my B3
Why this poor brake set was factory installed on B2 GTE ["sport"] and mk2 GTI 8v [weak one ] - because for light and realtively weak engine it's enough My poor brake set brakes stronger than neigbhbours B3's 256X22MM in front and 245X10MM on rear - because mines are in better condition than he's And, don't forget, B2 GTE's uk name "sport" is just name, there isn't anything "sporty", just nice engine About seizure - do u have circle fingers? In latvia's biggest audi forum there is a couple of topics how to refurbish calipers, and, refurbishment also is good chance to colour them Of course, there isn't anything complicated, where is the fckin problem? About master cylinder i didn't know anything, it's a good thing to investigate ![]() |

bit late on this but......
256 mms 100 pcd golf discs on the front with the calipers from a 256 equipped 90 /Coupe ( probably a B3 as well ?? ) will be bolt on. I did this a few years ago. I didn't change the master cylinder but as far as I can see it only means that you have a very slightly longer push on the pedal to move the fluid . I sourced my rebuilt calipers from the local Motor Factor ( i expect GSF etc etc do the same ) so they were 'new' and charged me £40 surcharge until I took the old ones back. I think the whole job ended up at about £120 - £140 mark , including new pads fluid etc etc I too thought about rear discs but was told not to worry, they are 200mms and mine survived a couple of track days without too much protest I would still like to swop my type 81 to 108 mms pcd though ............. |

Are B3 20v sedan 276mm discs the same offset/top hat measurement as the 256mm B2 Coupe/90 quattro ones?

Thanks, will check it out. There is a way to get 280mm discs on a 4x108 Type 85, but it involves replacement of front struts and re-drilling Golf G60 discs to 4x108. Would be great if there was a simpler way. Would need some way to space calipers out to 280mm too.
