Our houshold currently 'boasts'
Audi A4 2.0TDi Avant
VW Bora 1.9 TDi 90bhp
VW Golf GT TDi 150bhp

Love em all, though not much use off road.

Had a Volvo V70, steer clear of the AWD, loads and loads of transfer box problems.

What about a low mileage Shogun 3.0 turbo diesel or a newer shape 3.2 turbo diesel;
easy to drive, off road capability, rwd on road unless you select 4wd, auto (grate for mums, without being sexist), loads of space, visibility etc etc.

What else, but an A3 quattro.
Basic model for the budget you announced,
but for a bit more you could have the S line.

the A3 would be ok, but i dont fancy having two of the same of the same car tbh, i think an A6 is sounding good, is there anything to look out on the diesels? and do they do a v6 or 5 cyl diesel?

Stick with 1.9 tdi.

COxy has just had his 130bhp chipped (or remapped???) to 175bhp......

V6 camshafts are made of chocolate.

im stuck on what car to replace it with, heres the need list

diesel
40MPG +
under 100k miles
look good on driveway (no pikey old 405 Diesel)
must be more than 130BHP
good sized boot (kid on way and loads of work stuff when staying away)
must be good on motorway
have half decent ground clearance for getting into a field (normal height not low)
most of all it MUST be reliable
budget of £5000 max

ive looked into the saab 95 as i loved my last one, however the 3.0TD has bore liner problems and the 2.2's are woeful.

That one is over priced for the year - 5k should get you into a 03 / 53 tdi 130 - I'm also looking for one at the moment.

No, all golfs has straight 4 cyl diesels, because V6 can't fit and L5 also can't fit
