if it's rusty, walk away! Trust me, you won't find spare parts for them! Unless you're a competent welder and fabricator then hold yer fire until you find a rust free one (or one with not that much rust on which can be repaired). They are about and do pop up from time to time! |

Mine are both B1s but one is a facelift so it looks more like a Typ81 (is this making sense)? You can get B1s with round headlights (so the first edition) right up to 1977 in the UK. Mine is an R reg.
If I let one go I know I would regret it, as its always worth having a spares car. Doors, bootlid interior parts etc are all the same. However, when I finally get going and decide which one I want to finish, then I'm more than happy to supply parts from the broken one. My dream is to amass a huge haul of early 80 parts and supply the whole of Europe - but as usual, space is a problem. There is a kiddie looking to sell his great uncle's Mk1 at the moment - think its for sale on here. I registered my interest for it in its current state (no MOT no repairs etc) for a fair price - not wanting to rip anyone off. I'm certainly not going near it when the inevitable scene tax is added. Bits are so hard to find for these, that selling a polished turd for £1k just isn't fair on whoever buys it.

There are a few German clubs that I am in contact with. Funny bunch tbh (not ha ha either)! Anyway, here's a link to their GTE club.
http://www.audi80gtgteclub.de/ If you did want to get one over from the Fatherland, I'm happy to help with language etc, I also have some good contacts who know the ins and outs of bringing stuff back.

Where did you live? I was in Heidelberg for 18 months, in Oberstdorf for a year and then around Stuttgart for a while too. I'm often over there with work now, but only for short trips.
The only problem I have with sites like that one is their denial of anything other than the GTE. Its a bit like some of the Quattro sites that are around. Thats why I like CA so much, there are loads of different models but real interest across everything Audi.
