I always use the www.hpicheck.com for that:

Vehicle Details for registration number 900DZ

No descriptive data is held by DVLA for registration number 900DZ.

its a old black plate with big kind of 'stuck on' characters.....

think the car might have been used in a bank robbery in the 1940s and dumped in the woods....!
