You did well to even club anymore at the age of 39/40? in 1997. That was my very last year of clubbing that summer down in Bournemouth aged 31. Good memories. By this time i really didn't like the music anymore apart from the odd track, your Rosie Gains Closer than Close being one, great number. This track that year lit the fires again for me in Bournemouth.

You'll know it at first bar, it's also the song me and the Mrs made our own so to speak. We still love it.

Still used to get to a few places back then, mind you it was only once a month or so, there are quite a few, or were kicking about that catered for the old school, and more overly the old music ( inc older generation ) and just a late night place to go without hoards of drunk youngsters, of I'm remembering one in Ascot called A1 or something like that, think it was over 25's, memory foggy now.

There was also a reunion a few years ago for the Pantiles crowd that used to go there, didn't go as felt just too old but it would have been good to catch up with a few ( really )old faces.

And then you have Caister Soul Weekenders, I haven't been to one of those since the early/mid 80's but I understand they are still going strong with a real mixed group.

As a foot note I was searching those tunes I posted last night and my lad ( 25 ) walked past the room and did a double take and stuffed his head around the door, said "where did you find them dad? that's all the stuff we listen to when we go up town" ( he lives in Tooting/Balham and town is the city ) " that's some of the best sounds going, where we go that's all they play"

I explained that many years ago his dad was cool and that these were just a progression of the early club stuff, " yeh whatever, they are rippin ( no idea, assume good ) send them over and any links".

The Memsaab said she had finally lost her little boy and he was taking after his dad now

Still don't think I will ever be cool again though

Cool? Those days are a sad distant memory for me although the wife still loves me. I got invited to one of those reunions last year from an old College days pal and made my excuses. I'm too old for it now. There's a part of me that would love to go back to those days as long as i could come back to my life today.

Loved the bit about your son popping his head round the door,i remember my brother and his mates they grew up with me playing some of the Electro and of course some of the stuff i put on here. They being 6/7 years younger than me loved the electro scene of 82 -84, what eventually became hip hop. When they turned 20 ish so early 1991/2 they started to listen to listen to the mid and late seventies cool funk like Donald byrd et all and some of the stuff i used to play because to them retro was cool. It still is visa ve your son. For me i don't think there will ever be a period in music like the very early eighties ever again, such an experimental time which spawned a lot of truly Great Music.

Whilst trawling around as you do, last night i found this which put a big smile on my face. What a journey back in time to how London used to be and of course this rare amateur footage from 84. The video just had me falling about laughing at the antics and how the passengers reacted. It's a bit of priceless cultural heritage. Think bruce might understand.

Who remembers the the dress of the time, the smart suit and loafers the Michael Jackson lookalike was wearing and of course the obligatory white socks. What about the guy with the new romantics style jacket hat and white trousers? London back then was a melting pot of everything with all the competing styles, with left overs from the punk era, skin heads, mods etc etc.

Enjoy.
