update:

bodyshop just called..

found 2 BIG leaks so far

1) sunroof drain hose (passenger side) has shrunk and come off its exit pipe so running striaght into the car
2) door apature seal wasnt sealed very well...

I said about the rear tail light so He'll have a look.

stripped out seat and carpet so thats dried off. The under lay sound proofing is f***** so he has removed it all and will replace with new material.

windscreen seal is good, no probs there.... PHEEWW!! didnt really want that disturbed.

so far so good then... progress in the right direction

Here's a thought...

Why don't you take the sunroof out, close all the doors, windows, airvents etc and then fill it up with water from the local fire hydrant, to the sunroof level...

You'll be able to walk all round the outside identifying any leaks without the discomfort of sitting in the car for hours watching for the odd tiddle...

Hope this helps...

Very best regards...

Ian

I did wonder if it was a wise idea suggesting such a process to a former member of Her Majesties Royal Navy... What with your training in escape techniques from flooded holds.

But then I thought, nope, you’ll be fine, you’re a trained diver… And there are bound to be airpockets up under the dash somewhere if you fall in.

Hi Rich, I know we keep on about them, but are you sure the door membranes are good. They really do prevent the water that runs down the window glass from getting to the back of the doorcard (which is inside of the door rubbers)...

Also, check the door rubbers are good, and tight, especially at the lower part of the A pillars, there's a bit of trim that sits down there, lips behind the rubber...

These bits...

Any rain that runs along the wing as you drive, is pushed into the A post/Door gap and blown onto the rubber. If the rubber is even slightly raised, it'll get in, and drip down onto the carpet where these two pieces of trim are.

VBR

another update:

called in today to see the chap doing the work.

He has found a few big leaks,

(Simmo, the membrane on oassenger side door was replaced)

ok.... the door apature seal wasnt sealed as it should so its been re sealed properly.

2) the sunroof drain hose at the sunroof end id 100% fine
3) the other end wasnt exiting the sill,it was going into the sill then into the footwell
4) the wing edge when the door is closed is water tight all the way up until about 3 inches from the top of the wing/ door gap, then water was coming in, further investingation revealed there IS a hole about the size of a 10 coin at the A pillar where the door closes onto the edge of the wing,
5) the windscreen is 100% watertight BUT the thin gap between the wing and the windscreen surround IS letting water in. I suggested running a sealant into that panel gap and prevent water getting in, so thats what he will do.

6) on the inside behind the plastic trim Simmo shows in his post above, this is where the water is coming in so thats also been sealed as well, the drain hose from the sunroof wasnt exiting but going into the sill then out under the car/ some of it INTO the car.
7) rear light cluster is still to be addressed but because its been soaked numerous times, I have a little puddle in the drivers side rescess in the boot.

Drivers side is the same as passengers so at least we have sourced all the water ingress points now.

no hurry to get car back, so probably next weekend....
