Default 1982 Audi Coupe GT5S for sale
Seller Type : Private
Vehicle Make : Audi
Vehicle Model : GT5S
Price : £350
Location : Bristol
Additional Details : V5C (Logbook),Taxed,MOT'd

Hey,

It is with deep regret that I’m offering up my GT5S for sale. The reason: my girlfriend’s learning to drive and I, really and truly, need something a little more economical for my daily commute L

I bought her off the previous owner – who I’m still in touch with – in November last year and had her MOT’d straight away for the princely sum of £350! Aside from the front brakes needing cleaning out there were two patches of welding required; one near the o/s/r beam mounting and one on the join between the o/s/f wing and the inner wing (where the bonnet rests). I argued the toss with the MOT man as I really didn’t believe they were totally necessary but hey ho. The previous owner bought her in 1986 and had her meticulously serviced (including annual engine bay steaming and waxing) by VAG specialists – she couldn’t have wanted for anything, mechanically speaking. I have plenty of bills and MOTs to show this.

Since passing the MOT I’ve fitted to her a new radiator (last in the country according to GSF), both centre and back boxes (VAG spec, from Euro Car Parts), a Weber 32/34DMTL and a new clutch (Fichtel&Sachs unit). I’ve had the cambelt and water pump replaced by VAG specialist (contitech belt and VAG pump). These items total £350 easily. I’ve waxoyled all around the rear beam mountings and in the arches to ensure no more welding will be required come next MOT time (November). She drives lovely, sounds fantastic and uses little oil. On a recent trip across to Northamptonshire (155miles@75/80; 60 miles of twisty A and B roads; 155 miles@70) she averaged just under 34 mpg. I think that gives a fairly good indication of what condition the engine’s in. Apart from being a bit reluctant to idle on her own when started from cold (this is down to me being too lazy to fit the choke cable for the Weber) she runs fantastically and sounds as a carb’d 5-pot should. Two new Pirelli P6000s were fitted to the rear 2 months ago and the front is wearing a pair of less expensive boots that were fitted just before Christmas. Cost of the former pair - £90; cost of the latter pair - £70.

Bad bits:

The driver’s seat right leg bolster is almost entirely disintegrated to the point where it becomes uncomfortable after two hours’ driving;
The driver’s side has quite a few (paint) oversprays/touch-ups and dings although most aren’t noticeable from, say, 10 yards away. More importantly; none are rusting/degrading;
The boot struts are knackered;
The front subframe could do with repainting as the original’s starting to flake off in places;
The bonnet leading edge has a few rusty spots inside and out that I’ve kept on top of with waxoyl. I’ve also waxoyled the aforementioned area where the wings join under the bonnet (where the bonnet rests) to keep any would money-making-MOT-men at bay;
The interior has seat covers front and back (only two months old as the original interior looks pretty ming!);
The centre cap (audi embossed) is missing from the n/s/r wheel;
The alloys could do with a recondition/damn good polishing – there are no scuffs/kerbings on them but they just look a bit tired.

I’ve been as honest as I can and put down absolutely everything that’s happened to the car. Anything else you want to know; don’t hesitate to ask. I am selling her with 6 months’ tax and 8 months’ MOT.

I'll settle for £500 with 6 months tax and 8 months MOT or £400 without the tax (she's due at the end of this month). Or just make me a sensible offer as she needs to go asap.

These two are from when I bought it (parked on previous owner's drive):

In the words of Jake Blues:

how much for your Mrs? How much for you wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiffffffe???

Seriously, ditch the Mrs and get one with a driving licence.

Or ask your employer for a pay rise.

Or send me your CV and go contracting.......

Serioulsy Matt, don't sell it. Do anything you can to keep it.

I sold my 80CL (reluctantly)4 years ago, and always regretted it. But I was lucky enough to spot it on ebay and buy it back.

Have you (in true engineer) fashion, done a spreadsheet of costs if you replace it? What will you buy? How much work will the new car need? At least you know yours.

This is such a valid point... Factor in the cost of advertising, selling, buying, repairing, taxing and MOTing a 'more frugal' car and you've paid for 2000 miles worth of fuel.

Default Audi for sale

Hey buddy

Is the GT still for sale? I'm very interested! She sounds great mechanically. Is the rest of the interior (rear seats, headlining, door cards etc) as bad as the drivers seat? Does she need a respray? Is she metallic red? Any photos of the bad bits?

Many thanks

Tom
