Default Help to locate boost hissing noise

Anyone good at identyfying loud boost leak noises and locating them?
Prefer not to hassle Tim Cooper at RENN TECH too much as he must be fed up of seeing my heap this year. Basically get to 0.5 bar and the hissing starts, By 1 bar its very loud and I back off to avoid possibly damaging something, so not very nice to drive at the moment and unable to enjoy the new exhaust note,

Check all hoses and connections for tightness.

If theres a bad split someplace, use a can of carb cleaner/brake spray and spray each joint in turn with the engine running.
Any air leaks will show up as a rise in rpms which drop down to normal afterwards.
Dont go mad with it tho else you may set the car on fire.....

Can only be in the induction air path so basically any hose or connection that is on the pressure side of the turbo ( including the intake manifold) is subjected to boost which can bleed off if theres a leak at all.

Problem is it only shows up on boost of 0.5bar and above (though it is getting worse). one option is to get the car on a rolling road and on boost whilst the bonnet is up and listen to where it is coming from.
Best option I guess is to find a boost leak tester kit that I can attach to outlet of turbo (not before as it pushes oil past the turbo oil seals into exhaust).

Anyone care to lend me a boost leak test kit

David.

Dont take this the wrong way but, your posts are starting to depress me.... so god knows you must be ready for swimming across the Mersey with some concrete pants on!!!!!

Ive followed your project car for years..... its a minter.....and your advice and magazine articles you sent to me when we put the 3b in my 85 was invaluble. .....its so close to being finished........That car.... defines you..... and if you think you are down now...wait till its in someone elses hands and you have to stand and watch its performance envelope well and truly licked!!!!....Believe me I know....Ive done it twice with my old ur and S2 Avant. Pleeeeeese..... dont get rid.

Jump on the M6, get off at A50 and go and see Ben at AVP. He is rebuilding another one of my 20vts, my AAN for the project car and what he doesnt know about those engines would have been information that Audi chucked the factory guard dog to shred and bury under the bronze statue of Roland Gumpert doing a moony to the president of the FIA back in 1981 when the quattro was launched into the world of rallying!!!!! ....... because its of no use.

Honestly it will be worth every drop of V Power. If you dont make it before Coombe, I will introduce you to him after Ive bought you a coffee and got you to donate to a Police Charity!!!!......

Thanks everyone! Gone too far now to sell, afraid its a lifer!!! So have to keep the old bucket but it does test Lynn's patience, possibly more than mine and it seems to be at more frequent intervals these days.
Money the big issue at the moment as it is with just about everyone and the last pennies I had saved for this year went on the exhaust so if its going to cost money to fix its staying in the garage until Christmas!!! At least it'll be dry and out of the rain and money saved on fuel will pay to get it fixed!! Came to work in it today and its now torrential and then some. Staying here until it eases off...
Might talk nicely to the fabrication company I use here and see if they can put something together from some offcuts...
